Pete Anderson

Author, Historian, and Evergreen Native

Pete Anderson is the great grandson of Gustaf and Mathilda Anderson. He grew up in the community of Evergreen, Colorado, where his parents were local business owners and his father served as a volunteer firefighter. Pete followed in his father’s footsteps, volunteering with the Evergreen Fire Department and spending 31 years at West Metro Fire Rescue as a career firefighter, retiring as a Captain.

A trained wildland firefighter and Plans Chief, Pete managed major fire incidents across the American West, earning certification to write incident management and after-action plans. He is a founding member of History Evergreen, a local historical organization dedicated to preserving the stories of the community.

His first book, Burning Bright: Evergreen Fire Rescue’s 75 Years of Valor and Service, was co-authored with Kim Marklund. Andersons of Yankee Creek is his second, a labor of love four years in the making. It draws on rare audio recordings of his grandparents Frank and Pearl Anderson, made by the Clear Creek Historical Society in 1968, 1975, and 1985.

Pete is semi-retired and continues to volunteer with the Evergreen Fire Department as a special assistant to the Chief. He lives in Evergreen with his wife Pamela and has one son.

"I knew them as kind and trusting people. They did not show any signs of the difficult life they lived. On the contrary they loved life and were thrilled with just the simplest of modern conveniences."
